Dona Paula, Goa: The Beach of Romance and Tragedy

Dona Paula is one of the most famous Goa beaches and is definitely worth a visit. It is also one of the most stand-out beaches since it is known more for its haunting tales than for anything else. The legend has it that a lady called Dona Paula had taken her life at this place after a failed love affair! Though, the incident is apocryphal and may have taken place hundreds of years ago, it is still believed that her soul haunts this beach and often frequents the place during moonlit nights. Hence, the beach is called as the Dona Paula Beach (named after her) and has got immortalized on the pages of romance and tragedy (much like the Taj Mahal)!

However, it is a popular tourist attraction and enjoys a salubrious location, just 7 km off state capital Panjim.

There are a number of facilities for water sports at this destination. Some popular ones include water scooting, parasailing, skiing, snorkeling, yachting and windsurfing. As a die-hard adventurer, you should not be satisfied with anything less than snorkeling or parasailing. However, there are certain risks and responsibilities attached with both these sports. Hence, the operators take every precaution to make sure that nothing goes wrong. This, in turn, also leaves you under the mercy of the weather. If the wind conditions are not friendly, then parasailing is not allowed (even if you are ready to pay the money, which can be as high as Rs 1500). Snorkeling too may not be permitted if the water is turbulent or the weather conditions are not perfect.

Nevertheless, a holiday in Goa is incomplete without a visit to Dona Paula. The town also houses attractions like the National Oceanography Institute and Cabo Fort, which are not far from the beach.

Overall, Dona Paula’s charm and romance would haunt you for the rest of your life. It is serene, placid, musical and heart-rending.

Kaziranga National Park: Ogle At The Rhino, Spot The Tiger

If you are interested in wildlife trips, then you must someday plan a tour to Assam. The state in the north-eastern part of India is home to the famous Kaziranga National Park, the most noted place for the one-horned rhinoceros. The one-horned rhino is the pride of India. But unfortunately, its population is declining very fast owing to several factors like poaching. The rhino’s horn is considered very priceless for its medicinal properties. Poachers can easily make lakhs of rupees by selling its horn to foreign merchants. Even the hide of the rhino can fetch them a lot of money. Cases of rhino-killings have been common all over the country.

Kaziranga is one place where one can still spot a sizeable number of rhinos. However, you may not be able to see them after a few years, if their death and decline continues in the same speed. So, why not book a north east tour package and travel to this wildlife park to ogle at the monstrous creature! These packages can be bought from the internet easily and at very cheap rates.

Apart from the rhino, which is indubitably the star attraction of the park, you can also feast on the beauty of other animals and birds. The forest is green and has enough space for plenty of beasts including the elephant and the tigers. However, spotting a tiger would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. But you can easily catch a leopard or a bear.

Commonly seen creatures include names like bison, langurs and deer. You would have a great time taking pictures of these beautiful animals.

Though, north east packages is available throughout the year, you must remember that the park stays closed during the monsoon months. So, plan a trip accordingly.
